VitalStim Therapy focuses on improving safety with swallowing through the use of NeuroMuscular Electric Stimulation. Electrodes (small stickers hooked up to the VitalStim device) are placed over swallowing muscles to increase strength and awareness. Most children are able to tolerate the session without difficulty and describe the sensation as “warm” and a “hug” to the neck. To be most effective, VitalStim Therapy is completed during a 60 minute session at least 2-3x/week.
